OBJECTIVE
The
objective of this workshop is to discuss simplified models to perform
efficient numerical simulations of turbulent reactive flows. In recent
years, there has been an increasing attempt to improve techniques used
in the simulation of the engineering reactive flows, where the turbulent
combustion processes are of greater importance. Apart from the difficulty
imposed by the unsteady turbulent flow field, which can be resolved by
using appropriate procedures such as Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes
(URANS) or Large Eddy Simulations (LES), the combustion processes add
further complexity into the governing equations. Even though the source
terms associated with combustion processes can be calculated by tracking
the elementary reactions, this procedure may end up with a detailed investigation
of thousands of reactions with many species, which is beyond the current
capacity of computer storages, especially for 3-D turbulent reactive flow
applications. Thus, it is highly desirable to develop methods that can
simplify the reaction kinetics without loss of accuracy. |
